Controlling Plastic Film Flexibility During Manufacturing

Learn how to control plastic film flexibility during manufacturing processes with cutting-edge product design and latest technology from Windsor Machines Limited.

Controlling Plastic Film Flexibility During Manufacturing

Manufacturing or converting plastic films that don't meet material specifications can be disastrous for a company. To ensure success, the key measurement parameters of the test, such as thickness, resistance to hot adhesion, resistance to sealing and the coefficient of friction, must be kept within the material's specifications. Band tension is the main winding principle used to control the hardness of the roll when winding elastic films. The longer the film stretches before rolling it, the harder the rolls will be rolled up.

The challenge is to make sure that the amount of tension in the band does not induce significant permanent tensions in the film. Windsor Machines Limited has introduced a five-layer polyolefin blown film line in India, known as the POD series. This innovative line provides greater flexibility, productivity and quality in the manufacture of barrier-free film applications. It consumes less raw material, allowing optimal use and conservation of resources.

The POD series is designed to produce high-performance, high-quality plastic films for packaging, milk bags, edible oil containers, shrink and stretch films, surface protection films, agricultural films and a variety of barrier films. Unfortunately, due to the natural variation of resins and the lack of uniformity in film-forming processes, coatings and printed surfaces, there is no such thing as a perfect film. If the resistance to hot adhesion (the force used to measure the strength of the seal when the film is still semi-cast) is too low, then it won't work properly during filling operations and packages may lose product once filled. To ensure that plastic films meet material specifications during manufacturing or conversion processes, it's important to use cutting-edge product design and the latest technology.

Windsor Machines Limited manufactures injection molding, tube extrusion and blown film systems that can help guarantee success. By using these systems and controlling band tension during winding processes, companies can produce plastic films that meet their desired specifications.
